Student Tech Application - Summer 2026 Kid Show

Completing this application does not automatically mean you will be working backstage. The Show Coordinator will notify you as soon as the decision has been made on how many students are needed.

Backstage: Move sets and props before and during the show. Because of its many responsibilities, backstage crew are required to attend all tech week rehearsals and performances, unless special arrangements are made with the Show Coordinator.

Lighting/Sound: Work the spotlights, music, and/or microphones. This crew will receive specialized training. Lighting/Sound crew members are required to attend all tech rehearsals and performances. The required training will be scheduled ahead of time.

Makeup: Assists the makeup committee with application of makeup, hair and cleanup in the Greenroom and backstage makeup areas.

Front of House: Provides help with raffle baskets, assists during shows selling souvenirs, concessions, etc.

Student Tech Rules
1. All student tech must attend all tech meetings/rehearsals during tech week.
2. All student tech will be on time when they are scheduled to work, and may not be in the backstage area when they are not scheduled to work. Student tech will sign in on the sheet and then report to the stage manager when
they arrive and do tasks as instructed.
3. Student tech must dress in all black with black closed toed shoes (this includes soles and logos, can be covered with black gaff tape). This is not furnished by CYT. If any additional costumes are needed for stage crew per directorial vision, those will be furnished by CYT.
4. There will be no conversations backstage during the show except as necessary to accomplish the jobs outlined by the committee heads.
5. Makeup student tech will work either in the makeup room or in the greenroom according to the instructions of the committee chairperson. Students working makeup crew should not apply makeup to themselves or to others who they are not directed. This includes supplying products and materials.
6. Student tech who are in between tasks may wait in designated backstage area and are then under the supervision of Greenroom/Backstage Parents.
7. All student tech will be respectful to all adults: CYT Staff, Cast, Parents, and Facility Employees.
8. Failure to comply with the above guidelines may result in your being sent home and removed from the crew.
9. This application does not guarantee your student a tech position.

**Student tech will receive a show shirt and are invited to eat meals with the cast while on duty during the show and are invited to attend the cast party.

I give permission for my child to be involved in this production and understand that he/she MUST attend ALL tech and dress rehearsals (tech week) and performances unless special arrangements are made with the Show Coordinator prior to the start of tech week. If my child becomes ill or there is an emergency, I will contact the Show Coordinator immediately, so that there is time to find someone to cover for them that day. I realize that if my student doesn’t follow behavioral expectations, they will not be permitted to work on the Crew and will need to be picked up from the theater.
